A simple rolling ball; it can entertain and educate, inspire and captivate.
Even though a rolling ball sculpture can range from super simple to extremely complex, it will always be grounded to the most simple of movements; a ball rolling on a track. Move the ball to the top of the track, let it go, and gravity becomes the motive force. Utilize creative track designs to harness the energy of the falling ball, and amazing things can be achieved.
The rolling ball can be used to captivate, demonstrate, and educate on many levels. From small single track sculptures, to room-filling complex installations, each sculpture works in harmony with both the environment and with the experiences of the viewers. Add the entertainment value of colorful balls suspended on polished tracks, soaring jumps over deep ravines, and roller coaster loops in a tangled web, and the simple movement has been elevated to a work of mechanical art. Include informational, educational, or creative themes and you have the essence of my rolling ball sculptures.
Since 1999, I have incorporated the ideas of entertainment, intrigue, and education into all of my sculptures.
